'Grow your own' was a great film. Glad ro see so many people in for it. An excellent comedy - made us all laugh out loud several times - yet with a very human message. I wonder if the hard working ordinary people who have been turfed off of there long-held allotment plots in London to make way for part of a 10 day hyper-expensive luxury play-ground for the running, jumping and taking drugs buffoons would appreciate it? Or is it only in films that it all works out in the end; the baddies get their just desserts, and the goodies all live happily ever after?

It might help cinema publicity if the films for September through to February were included on the Forthcoming Productions page of the website! Anyone looking at that page would think the cinema has packed up!

The Norbury Theatre does not employ a full-time website updater! The website and ticketweb sytem are updated as frequently as I can get the time. The films will be on there as soon as possible

We must try and get Mama Mia into the next batch of films! Every other local venue seems to have had it already (even slotted in as an extra to their advertised programme I gather!) Tenbury retained it and showed it to good houses almost all week! I suppose it will come to the Norb in a year or so's time, after everyone has seen it and the same week that it's on TV - and then we'll moan about the poor audience!

When we tried to bok films well in advance we were let down because when the date came round for us to show the film (one in question being 'Seabiscuit' ) the distributor informed us with a few days notice that it was no longer licenced and we had to show an alternative instead! Its the nature of a small scale cinema like the Norbury, that is not a cinema club (i.e anyone can come; charges for admission and advertises) that the the type of licence is very restrictive, applies film by film, and is rather late in being granted! I don't think that the licence for public showing of the DVD version of Mama Mia is even available yet so we can't book it. Cinema's with the 35mm film projectors can get some of the new releases with 4-5 weeks, and Tenbury are having Mama Mia back for a third time in October! Film Societies and cinema clubs that charge membership fees and not admission charges and have members only showings, have a different kind of licence for 'private showings' and so can show any old DVD bought from anywhere whenever they like from the first day that the DVD appears in the shops! The whole system is potty, but if we disregarded the regulations we would be taking a big risk! Of course the Norb could become a film society, but we'd need 50-60 people to agree to pay membership for it to be viable. Of course, we'd have no advertising problems because all we'd need to do is circulate the members.

Maybe the Film Society idea could be mooted in the next Newsletter? See how many Norbury members would be prepared to join. We could also canvas or cinema 'regulars' sometime, Bring it up at the next film committee meeting Ange!

I agree. Keeping Mum was an excellent film. Hope to get to Unfinished life on Jan 7, (hope the panto people haven't built a set which stops us getting the screen down!

Cinema is back again on Wednesday after the break for panto!
Film is 'In Bruges'. I don't know anything about this film but will go along and see what it's all about - hope it's not all naughty words, mumbling and shooting though!
I have just noticed that the film after that - one I would definitely like to see "Music and Lyrics" is on the very next week (February 4th). Unfortunately I usually can't get to the cinema on the first Wednesday in the month due to other commitments, which is most annoying. I do wish that it was possible to regularise cinema nights, say to second and fourth Wednesdays - it would be so much easier to remember then (but other events use the stage of course, and so this is virtually impossible). Bother!

As predicted I didn't make it to the cinema tonight as I was needed elsewhere - so come on Ange, tell me......did I miss a good film and a packed house?

I see that our next film is "Mrs Henderson Presents" again. 'Back by popular demand' I gather. Let us see how many of those that did the 'demanding' actually show up! I am sorry to see more films on first Wednesday in the month because I can get to them. Having missed History Boys and Music and Lyrics, I'm even going to miss the 'straight' showing of 'Mama Mia'! Bother! (no, I'm not coming to the sing-along version instead)

Oh bother and blow! (stronger language intended but not allowed on forum) I was reconciled to missing Narnia and Mama Mia, but now I find that I shall have to miss 'Road to Perdition' as well! A society that I involved with has an 'emergency AGM' that night! Looks like the next film I'll get to see will be the second showing of "Atonement" (which I shan't mind seeing again) at the end of May!

The Sing Along vesion of Mama Mia really proved to be a big hit! We filled the theatre to capacity and even had to turn people away Everyone had a fantastic time and came out smiling and humming the tunes! ;D The bar made some money and so did the sweets and ice creams! If everything we did at the Norbury attracted the same numbers we would be laughing!

Glad to hear about the full house for Mama Mia! I suppose that if we put it on again 'by popular request' like we recently did with "Mrs Henderson presents" we shall only get about 6 in, as we did then!
