I went to watch the unveiling of the Edward Winslow sculpture yesterday and I think it's very good and fits in well, the figure and the rock that he is on are well proportioned and a suitable colour and the plinth that the whole thing is mounted on looks quite effective. I only hope that vandals don't decide to target it - though they haven't done much over the years to the Saltworkers sculpture by the library (the non-functioning of the water element of it is not due to vandalism, just hard water having clogged the works I gather!) and on the whole we don't get a lot of that sort of trouble around the town. The council say that they hope that it will attract tourists from the USA, although if I had travelled all the way from Devil's Gulch, California to see it I might not think I'd got my money's worth!

Yes, do go and see our Edward. Its a nice piece of bronze on a nice piece of rock - Droitwich's own diddyman!

I haven't seen any publicity about the Bands in the Park, other than the mentions in this forum. I walk through the park most weeks and there were no posters etc advertising them. Of course we at the Norb know how advertising gets missed whatever you do to bring it to peoples' notice don't we? I was glad to see that DroitwichSpa.com website includes our film showings and live shows though, once you find your way to the right part of the site!

I like bands in parks, but I've either missed them due to other commitments or its been raining cats and dogs on all of the band Sundays so far! Maybe I'll catch a few minutes of the last one! !

Gosh, its nearly 'Bands in the Park' time again and no one has posted in this forum since my last comment last season. I walked through the park on my way to do a turn of duty on one of the stalls on St Richards Festival Day and heard a couple of excellent talented young musicians who were performing on the bandstand..... to an audience even smaller than we get on a bad night at the Norb. That is about 2 (3 for a few minuts whilst I stopped to listen)

So nothing's happened since Salt Day then? It'll be the St Richard's thing next I suppose? Oh the excitement!

Green bin, black bin. Green bin, black bin. Green bin, black bin. Birth, death. Birth, death. Birth, death. The relentless, endless cycle. Some of us go to landfill in the churchyard, but we're all recycled in the end!

Canal reopening, bands in the park and Norb Shakespeare in the park! Its been a busy time recently and none of it got a mention from me on this forum because a) 3 grandchildren and their parents came to stay and house was turned into an explosion in a toy-shop plus non-stop washing machine and b) Internet trouble chez moi! Numerous conversations with India and lots of hanging on the phone produced no results and theh finally a nice man from BT Openreach came to actually look and within half an hour problem solved! Needed a new router (BT Home Hub 3)

Country music's not my scene but I wonder why the Norbury lets such events thrive elsewhere when we ought perhaps to be staging such things in the theatre. Looking at other theatre's 'coming events' lists there often seems to be something on almost every night and often in the day as well, The Norb on the other hand is 'dark' for most of the time. A live theatre only lives when it is used!

And a forum only lives if people post on it.... And read it!

Band in the park was very good. Pity about the weather though! Didn't see you there Ange, Fair-weather fan these days?

Bands in the Park have been reasonably fortunate weatherwise so far tis year. First one rainy, about 20 stalwarts under umbrellas. Next three all lovely sunny afternoons, excellent attendances people having picnics etc. Sauce City Jazz Band very popular - bigger audience than many shows at the Norbury get (despite the fact that they mainly have to bring their own chairs!) An official kill-joy managed to ruin one familiy group's picnic by officiously telling them they were not allowed to drink alcohol in the park (a bottle of wine with their picnic).... (Amazing, isn't it that no-one says anything to the bunches of vodka/cider/lager drinkers who litter the cricket field and other parts of the park with their food wrappers and empties, but can butt into a quiet family picnic!) Latest band had a good damp turnout with some rain. but it didn't stop play!
